Being Happy

Bridger was out of town in Dupont this last week.. The kids really missed him. Bridger has made a point of hugging each of our kids every day. I don’t think I am so good at this. But because he is hugging them, he hugs me more often, too. It makes me happier. Maybe hugging them will make them happier! Maybe that is why they missed him so much. It is either that, or their Mom is a grouch and knows when they try to stay home from school "sick" but aren't really sick. Corban and Kjerstin tried that this week. When Kjerstin was home "resting" she asked if she could go to Grandma's instead. That is how I know I am NOT fun! Corban has a new favorite food, too. Popcorn with chocolate chips sprinkled over it while it is still hot so they melt. I think he has had it 3 days out of the week. So despite his boring day home. The rest of his week sounds pretty sweet to me!

Some Thoughts

We had stake conference this weekend and I really enjoyed the Saturday night talks. It is usually the only one I get to listen to due to kids. They talked about marriage and child rearing which is exactly where I am so it seemed very applicable. I kept thinking of people I wish were there to hear it as well. Here are my thoughts on it to any who couldn't make it or are interested!
Our stake president talked about benevolence. He quoted a NY Times articles. Here is the link: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/02/fashion/02love.html?em Basically this woman has been married for 30 years and her husband tells her he doesn’t love her anymore. She says she doesn’t buy it. She sticks by him while he goes through his own difficult times and a wife who sticks by him. It is a good article. Elder Nattress from Fruitland came to our conference. He talked about a scripture in Doctrine and Covenants 52:14: “And again, I will give unto you a pattern in all things, that ye may not be deceived; for Satan is abroad in the land, and he goeth forth deceiving the nations.” He had microphones going around and he asked ways that Satan is tools Satan is using to destroy our homes. Then he showed us a video clip of President Monson. It just talked about some of the people he has served while he has been an apostle. He asked us the pattern that he shows us to help protect our homes. He then quoted a scripture in JSH: 1:59-60 and told us to replace plates with our children: “the same heavenly messenger delivered them up to me with this charge: that I should be responsible for them; that if I should let them go carelessly, or through any neglect of mine, I should be cut off; but that if I would use all my endeavors to preserve them, until he, the messenger, should call for them, they should be protected. I soon found out the reason why I had received such strict charges to keep them safe, and why it was that the messenger had said that when I had done what was required at my hand, he would call for them. For no sooner was it known that I had them, than the most strenuous exertions were used to get them from me. Every stratagem that could be invented was resorted to for that purpose. The persecution became more bitter and severe than before, and multitudes were on the alert continually to get them from me if possible. But by the wisdom of God, they remained safe in my hands, until I had accomplished by them what was required at my hand.” I liked that comparison. We are certainly living in troubled times. He quoted Elder Holland who has said that this is the only war whose victor has been already determined. It is just up to us to decide what side we are going to be on. I hope these thoughts help me stay on the right side and keep my family with me!

Reaction from the Ultrasound

Brynna told me she wanted a girl and told me she would just take care of Daven instead. I guess she has learned to like Daven enough to ignore the fact that he is boy. She is in a phase where she LOVES babies. She is friend's with my RS presidents granddaughter. She was over there playing this week. It just so happened she had more grandkids there as well, 3 of which are within a year of each other and have just turned 1 or will soon. She was more interested in the babies than her friend and kept telling her friend, "Emily, I have 3 babies here, I could use some help!" She loves going on RS visits where we visit people with babies. We will go to visit a sister who has had a newborn and be done and ready to go home and she begs, "Can't we go visit another baby?" Kjerstin found out and started throwing a full out tantrum stamping her feet and screaming, “I WANTED A GIRL! I WANTED A GIRL!” Hopefully she will come around, too. She was awfully excited to take the ultrasound pic to school to show her class. Corban was the only one who was really happy it was a boy. I think he will be a good little playmate for Daven. I was worried that it would be too much work as Daven is still quite a baby, but it is amazing the way he is growing up! I can't believe it. So there is the reaction from everyone else! 20 more weeks to go! Half way is a good place to be.

It's a boy!

Bridger is right yet again. He said it would be Pete and re-Pete. Daven will have a good buddy to play with. I think the Lord likes to keep me humble by showing me I am often wrong. I think I should turn over the apron strings to Bridger. He seems to have more intuition than I do!

And the winner is...

This week is my ultrasound. We will find out if the boys or the girls will be the lead to end this race. Bridger thinks it is a boy. He is usually right. However, I am usually sicker with boys and I don’t feel sick enough to think it is a boy. I think it is a girl. But, I am usually wrong. We will see who is right as well as the winner of boys/girls race.

Brynna

Since the older kids have been at school, I have had more time to be with my Brynna. She says some pretty funny things. Yesterday, Kjerstin was trying to decide what to wear. Her answer, "Just wear something fashionable." What great advice from your 4 year old sister. She was also asking me if I would ever be a grandma and if she would ever be a grandma. I told her I would be a grandma to her kids. She told me when she had kids she would live far away (where Uncle Jared lives- D.C.) but it would be okay because she would arrange "play dates" for me to see my grandchildren. So funny!
